Cam belt idler on aux auto tensioner?
Is the cam belt idler pulley about the same size as the aux belt auto tensioner pulley on a 156 2.4jtd 10v. The reason I ask is the other day my aux belt stripped a rib of either side and when i went to fit the new belt a found pretty much everything could do with replacing. I have fitted the old belt after cleaning up the edges as i didnt want to wreck the new belt and the old one been narrower does not catch or make any noise other than the squeak on start up. I checked the auto tensioner and noticed it looked different to the ones i had seen on line, Then today while looking for a crank pulley I found a cam belt pulley which looks just like my tensioner pulley. I have had a squeak on start up for most of time i have had the car. The crank pulley rubber has splits in it, The manual tensioner is almost worn through in places, The idler pulley runs a bit rough and the auto tensioner pulley looks like the bolt is off center. I have priced up locally and online, including cam kit and water pump is £360-£400. Is it worth buying any used bits or does anyone know anywhere I might be able to cut the cost down a bit.
