I seem to come across lots of threads while searching for stuff where 1.6 147 drivers say things like 'its so much quicker than my old Alfa xxx' or 'blew him away' etc etc - you get the picture.
So is my 1.6 147 (2003) the only one that:
Gets beat off the line by everything from Smart 4twos to lorries.
Is gutless through gears 1,2 and 3
Is a non-event acceleration wise until past 4k rpm in gears 3,4 and 5.
Causes regular embarrasment at how slow she is until the above is happening.
Now, before the ridicule begins, its not my driving - the only thing that makes me drive like and old man in a volvo is knowing my bella can't move her ar*e from a set of lights.
Admittedly, I don't often go above 4k rpm in gears 1-3 for fear she'll just explode (i'm aware this is purely paranoia)!
Is it me - or is the 1.6 pre-facelift 147 a car that can only really be enjoyed out on the dual carriageway/motorway, at over 50mph. Love her to bits - but just find her a bit lacking! Is there a little 'mad' switch somewhere in the car that only teenagers know exists?
Obviously, the waves from other Alfas and jealous looks from German barge pilots are a wonderful experience - just doesnt quite outweigh the above.
Opinions appreciated fellow Alfisti!
