Clutch problem causing engine vibration
Hi guys, apologies if this fault has been covered in a previous post, I did search as many clutch related problems as I could, but didnít find any that covered the exact symptoms I am currently experiencing. I have a 2003 156 Sportwagon 1.9JTD, I noticed about a week ago that the clutch pedal didnít feel as smooth when pressed as previously, and almost felt gritty/creaky when pressed and depressed causing juddering between gear changes, also the biting point of the clutch is a lot lower than it was, I now have to push the clutch right to the floor to change gear. It still has pressure when pressed, and returns to the correct position fine.
The problem I have is with 1st gear and occasionally 2nd. Iím finding that if I lift the clutch and press the accelerator as normal from a stationary position, the engine vibrates quite aggressively, until a press the clutch down again, however Iíve found that if I lift the clutch very slowly, and press the accelerator a little more than I normally would, I can get her going vibration free, the same occurs if Iím in 2nd gear and the cars not moving as fast as sheíd like, vibration again, 3rd, 4th & 5th gear are all fine, itís just stopping and starting thatís the issue. The problem also occurs when reversing, at normal biting point aggressive vibrating,, but if I very slowly lift the clutch and over accelerate, it reverses okay.
If anyone has any idea what it is thatís causing this, or what parts I need to replace Iíd be most appreciative, Iíve checked fluid levels so can rule out any fluid loss. I have a basic mechanical knowledge having done a few jobs on my Alfa in the past, using this site as reference, so I was hoping to purchase and attempt a fix myself to keep costs down, Thanks guys, Martin.
