Re: Screeching on start up
The screeching is usually the fan belt slipping, it may explain why the engine takes a bit longer to start as the alternator may not be delivering a full charge. If the belt is loose it will get worse with a larger electrical load. The belt also drives the power steering pump and the air con compressor.
Don't know if you can adjust it 'cos it should have an automatic tensioner, that may mean its knackered, I would check the condition first before looking at anything else.
It could be ready to fail, it depends on how old it is and for how long it's been loose (assuming it is loose).
