VIBRATION 147 16v 1.9 JTD
Hello Alfa owners,
We’re new to the Alfa World and last week I hit a pot hole which went with a bang. The rim was dented and this has been replaced along with 2 new tyres.
The steering wheel vibrates ferociously at speeds above 60 mph, more so on load in higher gears. At this point if the clutch is pressed the vibration disappears. So going steady or downhill at 60+ the vibration disappears.
The vibration seems to be coming from the right hand (driver side).
We took the car to a garage and they found a lot of play in the driver’s side drive shaft. Also the CV boot had been previously cable tied, with grease spilling out.
Simply put we have a quote for £450 for a drive shaft, and £475 labour.
If we knew this would cure the problem it wouldn’t seem so bad. But the garage admits this is only a starting point to remedy the cure.
Has anybody else had similar problems with the 147 JTD, can you possibly help, hopefully point us to another solution please? Can anyone recommend a UK drive shaft supplier please? (New or recon)
If the vibration is left for a while we remedy it (say 4 weeks) is it likely to do further damage to the car?
Is it possible the pot hole could have damaged the drive shaft?
