Help Alfa GT Suspension Repairs

Just need some advice.

The following problems were highlighted during the service of my 04 GT 1.9 diesel (75,000 on the clock):

Rear track control arms bushes worn out
Front anti roll bar bushes worn

Please can help with following:

1. How urgently does this work need to be done
2. Been quoted 400 to undertake both jobs (apparently the anti-roll has to replaced as the bushes cannot be changed). Seems reasonable but just wanted confirmation
3. When the work is done will the car handle better?

err do powerflex not do arb bushes???

know what i would fit rather than another consumable part.

The ARB bushes can be replaced, but to do so is a fair bit of work...just to remove the ARB. The bushes are in sealed mounting brackets the rivets in which have to be drilled out, the brackets can them be prised apart to replace the bushes. This is the process for replacing the stock ARB with the Eibach version. Eibach supply the ARB and bushes but not the mounting brackets, your originals have to be used.

The powerflex bushes ain't that cheap, about 30UKP IIRC, and if the paint has started to flake on the ARB or is going a bit rusty this will hasten the failure of any replacement bushes. A whole new ARB can be had for around 80 complete with bushes.

If the bushes are that bad that it can be seen from a visual inspection I suppose it could be an MOT failure...not sure about that one though. Have you noticed any knocking?

Problem with the ARB on the JTDs (whether 147, 156 or GT) is that the rubber bushes, even the bar itself, is not up to the job. The engines are heavy and the rubber bushes soon turn to chocolate.

I gather from Laurence at Autolusso South (Bournemouth) the later GT JTDs were fitted with the GTA ARB to mitigate all the premature failures (and to improve handling). The GTA ARB is 23mm incircumference, not 22mm on the others, and the bushes are supposed to be more resilient.

On my 156 JTD 16v 150 Sport I'm taking it one step further and fitting a GTA ARB with powerflex bushes, put together by Laurence. I'm on my third ARB (the last one has only lasted two years) and I'm fed up with it. If this doesn't solve the problem I'll start crying

There has been no knocking and it passed it's MOT this week.
