alfa 156-tspark gear selector housing problem
Hi All

I have come across a problem with my alfa 156 t-spark, i bought this car 2 months back with a 500euro discount due to a gear box problem, the car wouldn't go into 1st 2nd or 4th gear so got the car cheap, i opened up the gear stick unit in the car to find the plastic housing cracked along the rear bolt which was causing it to slide out to the right and the gear stick would disconnect from the selector unit, the gear stick was very lose so i folded some cardboard and forced it down the side to stop the bolt from sliding out, i got all gears back and drove home delighted because i knew well it is not a hard fix as i have 2 other cars and have done alot of work on them such as turbo changing when the fu##er blew on me etc, so i am handy with tools, but the problem i am facing is the three small bolts holding down the unit the just simply turn when trying to loosen them, i want to replace this part and im not sure if there are nuts connected to the inside of the unit which are turning with the bolts as i try loosen them if so the exhaust should be removed i think, but hey this is my first alfa and im very fond of it so i hope some of you have had the same in the past and can shed some light on...

after a bit more research i found a picture that is very similar to the part in my car which has cracked.

Guys found a previous post with the same problem i added the link for anyone who needs to do this repair too

Does this help? Alfa Romeo forum: Very loose gear lever

The guy's a member on here, hoping to follow it for my own 'fix' soon.
