Alfa 2.0L T.Spark Timng & Balance belt Renewal
I wanted to pick your braines on anyone that has done a timing belt renewal on a 2.0L T.Spark engine. I have been reading up on how to do this procedure for about half a year now on written articles and downloaded the official procedure documentation from Alfa Romeo.
My 156 is due for a Timing & Balance belt renewal as it is coming up to 3 Years since the last belt change.
I am due to replace the following:
Timing belt, with tensioner & idler
Balance shaft belt, with tensioner
Water pump (with metal impellor, where can I get this from?)
Variator? (variator was last changed 3 years ago, covered less than 10k)
I understand that I need tools:
Timing belt tensioner
Balance belt tensioner
Inlet pulley tool
Variator removal tool
Cam lock tools
Long story short, what are the main points to consider when carrying out this task? Apart from using the correct tools to make job easier. Also I understand that the DTI gauge is to measure where TDC is but; I've never used a DTI gauge, are the markers there to show where the initial TDC is before you crank the engine round twice before tensioning the timing belt tensioner?
Any pointers on this subject is most grateful.
