Always been one of the most expensive when I've checked ... Direct Line don't come up on comparison sites ... not surprised .. people will soon find out how expensive they actually are. (PS didn't they get done last week for fiddling records?)
Remember Comparethemarket is OWNED by one of the insurance company groups so the quotes there won't cover every other competitor. The same company owned Admiral/Elephant/Diamond (i think) as well as own brands – ibuyeco, Budget van and Budget car insurance. So likely to be more favourable.
I have been with direct line for last 3 years as they came out cheapest for me.
Now I am 25 I dont get caught in young driver policies its different and I am moving now, as my insurance is up end of the month.
just go on comparison sites, I have just signed with admiral and am getting a free meerkat toy, joy of joys!
managed to cover myself, 25yrs old with 7yrs ncd and my missus (who is a learner!) with protected NCD fully comp both of us for £730 on my 1.9jtd mjet 156. could have gotten myself alone with performance direct for £500 if I wanted.
premiums have gone up a lot in the last year or two. bout 13% I believe.
and now someone accidentally wrote off a cruise liner expect them to go up even more again.
interesting statistics, the insurance policy excess on the costa concordia was £30,000,000 and was insured for £700,000,000 approx (thats jus the ship itself). then you add to it the cost of salvage, compo payouts to people and relatives as well as the posessions people lost on board, going to be a massive payout. it was underwritten by 3 companies.
