Re: Re-Map or Chip????
Chip or Remap...in the end you get a new soft in the ECU...only diffrence is how the software is writen on the ECU....by removing the old chip or just by flashing the ECU trough the OBD...some companies dont have the software for the OBD programing which is not very cheap...and they used the good old fashioned way.
But anyways what I ment was that in the end you still get the same thing.
What boxes do is that they connect them between the fuel pump and the ECU (or something like that) and the Box implifies the signal to the pump and by that increasing the fuel pressure...BUT everything else stays the same...turbo boost usally is a little bit more to have a safe margin...that safe margin is used by these crapy boxes...and under heavy accel...it goes over that limit...and not enough Air is supplied for the burning proccess...a lot of smoke coming out and your engine, cat is dieing at these times....That is the most simple explonation...
While a remap....changes the actual data in the ECU (engine control unit) so that the original map...which are used by the ECU to determine what to do in pedal to the metal....25*C outside tem. 28*C fuel temp. 45*C air temp at the air filter....30*air temp after the intercooler...and so on and on...the remap changes all that...and the engine becomes more efficent-->powerfull
So: a box is universall for all coman-rail cars for example and it "lies" to your car
a Remap is a 80% new software in your ECU.
p.s: a friend of mine has his 145QV remaped by digitaltuning.ch and when the car goest in to the red zone even some red light comes on...nice future
