2 posts in about 4 hours from the newbie, oh well.
Anyways, being as everyone keeps going on about the cambelt and variator etc I and my 147 done 41K I called motorvogue alfa in Northampton just now.
They quoted me 535 for all the belts and tensioners and the variator, what do you think? from an alfa dealer thats quite good. Motorvogue are good, I had my gear lever pivot point replaced due to the common gearlever not neutraling prob and 2 weeks later I get a call to ask if I was happy with the service!
Gonna book her in a coupla weeks for some luvin.
Interesting though, on the phone I asked the bloke what the deal is with the 72K and 36K cambelt change question. I asked him, exactly what is the change point and quoted u lot off the forum, "So is it 72K or not" I asked him, his answer was "yes and no", "Alfa acknowledges there is a problem as most cars cambelts are failing at the 50-60K mark, we have 3 147's at this mileage out the back right now with their engines in bit's".
Another intersting thing, he says from this month, Alfa has stopped compensating cambelt failures before 72K, regardless of a full alfa service history or not. They did before as long as it had a full alfa history, well now they aint, t0$$ers!
Point of the matter, just goes to prove alfa do know about the early failures, they must be very common due to the fact that they have withdrawn compensation for early belt failures as of this month, must be costin them 2much $$$ to replace blown engines
