I am stuck in the unfortunate position of having to get a new throttle body on my V6. This is very annoying as its expensive and the only bit I actually need is the black box on the side of it that controls the butterfly
All those crappy little plastic gears and things have too much play in them, probably due to my early days of overenthusiastic cleaning before I knew better.
Anyone else had this problem and replaced the throttle body? How many miles had you done and what were the symptoms that drove (sic) you to do it?
Two questions then:
a) What do you think about risking getting a second-hand one? If its off a low-miler then I should be alright, but its finding a low-miler. Its risky as the replacement could be knackered or near to being knackered. They go bit by bit so it wouldn`t be easy to send it back under warrenty.
b) Is there a body from another engine that fits without any alteration, and doesn`t upset the ECU? It broadens my second-hand opportunities and I might just get some more power
How about a 3.0 v6 body off a 166/gtv? Will I need the inlets too (will they fit on my heads?) or can I just bolt straight on to the plenum. If anyone has done this and put a different V6 body onto a standard 2.5 24v V6 I would love to hear.
BTW when i get the old one off I will dissect it with photos so you can see what the problem is
Of course, it may just be that this wasn`t the problem in which case there will be some serious crying
