Hello all. sorry been away sick!
Love these threads
so, the new thermostat is an offical alfa one (says the ex dealer I paid to fit it)
as ex dealers who I do respect, I would have thought no airlocks etc.
however I did check the engine bay before I left as had the car serviced too. (they did grease the latch, and refill the spare tyre)
they didn't top up the coolant!!! unsure how big the tank is, but it was almost 1inch below the MIN mark!
good thing I checked...
so my new thermostat climbs to 90 faster then the original one did when it worked.
and drops to 70(ish) but not fast. convinced it just matches the stat opening.
it climbs and drops a few more times but each time it drops less and falls slower. until it stabilises about 90. if it climbs over, the fan does 'seem' to kick in. I've not checked as had the worst cold ever.
*the interior heater! it always worked. even when the old temp gauge stopped climbing at all.
but now the heater does come 'online' faster than before.
AND it actually performs much better - but this could just be a placebo!
MPG - still not checked properly, but the last £20 has already lasted longer than recently.
