Help Selespeed start failure

After fours years of happy motoring I now experience a flashing selespeed warning light and a failure to engage either 1st or reverse. The engine starts OK and everything else is fine but no gears.

Seems to be associated with not hearing selespeed pump kick in when driver's door opened. Goes away sometimes after engine is warm. Find that re-doing the start up procedure of unlocking then opening door triggers pump sound and then usually all OK. Usually works after several repeats.

Dealer has diagnosed over 80 faults on the ECU but says they make no sense. Is this a simple fix, e.g. a door open sensor or contact??

Re: Selespeed start failure

Hi, maybe you can check the relay of the pump. Its located somewhere above the actuator, next to the battery and below the intake hose.

Yes check the Selespeed pump relay.
It is located under the relay cover in front of the battery (it is marked "Diesel Heater" !)

Re: Selespeed start failure

Thanks for that, relays checked out OK so problem lies elsewhere.

Pump starts sometimes, not others, runs intermittantly. Often better after engine warms up. Doesn't like quick changes so running on City mode at the moment which is very boring.

Suspect electrical problem but may be the pump. How can I diagnose or get fixed without being fleeced for the wrong thing?? Pump is up to $900AUS to replace.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Must be something with the wiring e.g. grounding check the wiring to see if there is a bad or loose contact , or place an extra ground wire to the pump.
