Low Battery Voltage ?

Hi Folks,

My 147 had been sitting for a bit so the battery charge dropped . The car still started but the dash lights were getting dimmer and the dash was telling me that the battery charge was low.

I took out the battery and gave it a full overnight charge. Popped it back in, car starts no problem at all and the dash lights etc are back to normal.

But it's still telling me that the battery charge is low !

Any ideas ?

Thanks for reading.

Alternator voltage regulator has probably failed.
Go to a local tyre and exhaust centre, many do a "free" battery and alternator check and it will confirm if the alternator is to blame... Remember, you are under no obligation to buy from them.

Try a local auto electrician, it often works out a lot cheaper to get the alternator regulator repaired / replaced... Mechanics/ garages will often prefer to replace the alternator for much greater cost to you

Recently had my alternator voltage regulator reconditioned. That part of the job cost 80. The real expense is in labour to remove and fit the alternator that involves dropping the subframe. Its around seven hours work (on an early production 156).

Do it yourself, maybe?
