Rear Brake Dust

My 2000 156 2.0TS has recently started to show a lot more rear dust than previously. Over all the years I have owned her there has been the 'normal' amount of dust at the front, but the rears have been relatively clean. Okay I've not cleaned the alloys for a few months but this weekend there was a lot more at the back then the front. I thought FWD cars had little rear braking usage - most was through the front pads, so am a little puzzled. The hand brake seems fine - no binding that I can see.

It's definitely brake dust and not road salt/dirt is it? I clean mine every fortnight, but at the mo, all my wheels are the same colour, mucky!
