Any ideas on the cause of this?
Firstly, this is the current problem I have:
clutch pedal bite point is constantly changing, from middle of the pedals travel, to right at the bottom. when pressing the clutch the pedal can go nearly half way without any pressure at all (feels like it not connected to anything). If I pump the clutch a few times, the bite point seems to return to normal for a short time.
It seems to me that one of the clutch cylinders (either slave or master) is faulty.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this, or anything I can check myself?
Are the slaver/master cylinders difficult to get to/change?
Secondly, the clutch, master and slave cylinders are only about 18 months old.
I had my clutch replaced about 18 months ago now as the clutch was slipping, but also the pedal wasn't right, clutch bite point had suddenly moved right to the last few MM of pedal travel, which by the time I got it to the garage wasn't working at all making it impossible to change gear.
I asked the garage to fit a new clutch, and to look at the issue with the pedal (I told them I suspected to master or slave cylinder)
They had the car for a fair few days then told me they had replaced clutch and one of the cylinders but there was still an issue with the clutch pedal and they think they needs to change the other cylinder too. which they then did.
I eventually got the car back with my wallet ~£900 lighter. Apart from still having a heavy clutch (which I was told a replacement clutch would sort) it worked okay, no slippage of the clutch and bite point was about half way through the pedal travel.
Now for the problem:
After what I thought was 6 months or so, I got in my car one cold morning to find the bite point was right at the end of the clutch pedals travel again. So far down that it wasn't fully disengaging the clutch when trying to changing gear.
I took the car to the same garage as soon as I could (was a little later in the day). On the way while stuck in traffic the clutch bite started to return to normal. By the time I got to the garage it was more or less okay again.
I left the car at the garage while they had a look (which they told me would be sorted under parts warranty). Later that day the garage called and told me they cannot find the fault as the clutch seems normal. He advised that I should continue to drive it, but return the car to the with the fault if it happens again.
Well guess what, I have the same problem now.
I took the car back to them, but now they are telling me it is out of warranty and they would be charging me.
More so, they said it was out of warranty when I took it to them last time. I did question why I hadn't been charged for them looking at the car at that point so the guy to say "it was a gesture of good will"
Any advise is greatly appreciated!
