156 Clutch slave cylinder. DIY'able?

Whilst coming home from work 2 weeks ago I noticed the clutch seemed to be biting a lot lower than normal and after about another 30 minutes it wasn't disengaging fully and the car would creep forward if it was kept in gear with the clutch depressed. Pumped the clutch pedal a few times and the problem seemed to go away and it had been fine until tonight.

I had to make a short trip to pick my son up and after about a mile the clutch pedal was travelling all the way to the floor with no resistance and I could not engage any gears with the engine running. After having a nosey around the forums it would seem it's either the master or slave cylinder thats gone. As it's dark and I couldn't get the car home I've not been able to see if it's lost any fluid or if there are any obvious leaks but on the assumption that it's the slave cylinder thats gone which means a gearbox out job, is this a job that can realistically be done DIY on the driveway?

Until i've got a nice RAC man to tow me home I can't be sure it's the slave cylinder and I'm really really hoping it's the master cylinder or something else.

In the event it's not really do able on my driveway does anyone know how much i could expect to be paying for a garage to do it? I'll be giving Alfatech in Huddersfield a call tomorrow but it's be nice to have a rough figure in my head before I call them.
