It sounds like the lower seal of the back plate is faulty. If you need one let me know. I have a known good spare back plate.
Lacken is absolutely right, if the Selespeed reservoir is empty or near empty and no sign of external leakage, the Tutela is leaking into the gearbox (with very bad effects !!!).
Hi again everyone, OK, a week later, I thought I should check the SS level and lo and behold, it was way down on it's normal level. System was still working though. Took directly to mechanic who topped it up. He then admitted that I do have a small leak in the actuator, which is leaking into the gearbox.... And they've also noticed this SS fluid buildup in the gearbox in previous services!!
They're trying to save me a scary actuator bill as they know I'm poor, but would have been nice to know earlier so I could start saving!
So... a couple of questions please.....
a) In the meantime, if we occasionally drain and refill the gearbox fluid, and meanwhile keep topping up the SS fluid, can you see any real problems doing this until I get the leak issue fixed?
b) "The actuator is a sealed unit which is only sold as a complete unit" says the mechanic. But Lacken kindly offered me a good spare back plate. So if the leak is in the back plate of the actuator, then I assume this part can be changed without me requiring a whole new actuator?? (I know this seems obvious, just want to be sure).
c) And do you think my mechanic will be able to confirm that it is actually the back plate which is leaking if they take it apart? Or is it tricky to confirm exactly where the leak is?
d) Lacken, if I want to take you up on your offer, can you let me know via a post or PM the price, postage to Australia etc? Thanks so much!
What would I do without this website!!
