DIY Cylinder Head change - help, oh help
Story so far, 156, 2005, JTD 16v Veloce - 6 months ago a diesel injector found to be faulty, head scored from gases passing it. Got replacement head and cam box, mechanic doing job had domestic problems, went out of business, moved car when closed down, I found and recovered car last week, now at home. No local mechanic will touch it as partially dismantled so left to me.
Question 1 - any idea how to do it? Does anyone know of a guide anywhere (Why no Haynes manual, enough sold).
2) What special tools do I need? I know about Cam Lock, but not where to get one. On ebay there are JTD16v cam timing/lock kits at £110, is all this necessary?
3) I believe head gaskets vary, how do I find out which one I need?
I am a very capable mechanic, have rebuilt numerous vehicles from chassis up but usually have a manual for settings/tools etc. Also 1st time working on a diesel.
Money tight as lots already spent before garage went bust is other reason I am doing it myself rather than finding an Alfa specialist before those suggestions come in.
Many thanks in advance.
