Can you repair thermostats?

I read a lot about Thermstats not working...but what is causing them to not work? I mean they are fairly basic what is the cause of the malfunction?

Could it be a build-up of calcium making it so it won't close properly? If this is the case then could it be removed to get the TS working again? Maybe by using some HCL ( hydrochloric acid or Sirit of Salts ) in the removed thermostat unit?

Just thinking aloud before shelling out ( again ) for a new unit!!!

Has anyone successfully repaired one?

Try to clean it and then cook it (use some thermometer to monitor the operation temeprature)
On a v6 mine was 1 year old and didnt function properly, i disassembled it and put a washer under the spring so there is more pressure on it. I gained good 5c (before at slow driving 80c )

I dont think you can repair them, they fail because the wax slowly leaks out over time, they are designed so when they fail they stay open which doesn't cause any damage as opposed to what would happen if they stayed shut
