Cleaning oily soot out of 10v manifold

Is this worth doing? I previously had a 320D and when I took the inlet manifold off it had so much gunk in the ports that they were about half the diameter.
Looking at the JTD 10v manifold you would have to remove the fuel rail at least to get it off which looks like a pain.
Has anyone done this job before and is it worth it? There''s no point if they tend not to clog too badly..
