After a couple of years of fairly faithful service, I'm considering chopping in my 156 saloon (99/S, 1.8 TSpark SP2) in favour of a Sportwagon. As much as I love the car, it's simply not practical - I need something with a bit more load carrying capacity (or at least more flexible arrangements for it's current capacity).
My options are:
a) New GT. Love to, but I can't really afford a new car at the moment, and besides, I might head off to work overseas in a couple of years and hence buying a brand-new car wouldn't be a sound investment.
b) 5-door 147 (second hand). Hmm. Not a huge fan of the 147, to be honest (no offence, guys - I just prefer the 156).
c) Sportwagon (again, second hand). More practical than a saloon 156, more space, but not significantly bigger or heavier. I'm given to understand that it's more like a stretched hatchback than a true estate.
I'd like to switch to diesel, but not lose performance, so I figure one of the 150ish BHP models will do nicely...
My question is, what age 2.4l and 1.9l diesels are in this category? My understanding is that only the newest M-Jet 1.9ls are this powerful, but that several gerenations of 2.4l engines have been in production with this kind of level of power output. What's the oldest (and, hopefully, cheapest) 156SW model that had a 2.4l JTD with this performance?
