curtain airbag squib (passenger)

Hi all, just got one of rarebare's interface cables & used "Fiat Ecuscan", (free programme) on laptop, windows xp.
It works fine, My airbag fault has been diagnosed as "curtain air bag squib ( passenger )"
Does anyone know where the connections for this are, & which airbag does it refer to? What is a squib?
Ta! Regards.

The "Squib" is the small explosive device that triggers the airbag.

Connectors for the curtain airbag are usually behind the trim on the "C" pillar.

Thanks Guys,
All OK now & that bl##dy air bag light is no longer shining & poking it's tongue out at me!

Save yourself 20 minutes & don't do what I did & remove the substantial trim ( 4 screws ) that the parcel shelf rests on. there is a little "pocket" underneath, you can reach the yellow airbag connector through this.

Don't be fooled by the bright shining contacts, they look as if brand new. WD40 did the trick.

No not yet, but will have a look when I've got a few spare minutes. Hope I don't find anything too serious. Thanks again

Hi I've got the air bag light on but have no access to any diag equipment at the mo, I don't have a lap top so can't get a lead or software. I maybe purchasing one in the future as I love my alfa 147 but know diag. software will be a must. I've just done a brake light bulb and noticed a 2 pin yellow connector near the light cluster. are these connectors for the curtain air bags ? also what are the common air bag faults on a 2001 147 just so I can have a check round and check some connections. Cheers Chris

Yes, as David C wrote about on this thread. I believe that most of the airbag light connection problems are with the connections under both front seats, this is possibly because seats are always being adjusted forward & backwards. I don't think that you will be able to do much good just having a check around & spraying WD 40 about. the problem is that you will not be able to reinstate the airbag light without the diag. gear, even if you "hit" on the right one. I did however read on another "airbag" thread that sometimes the airbag light may sort itself out once a good connection has been established.

Throw only toilet paper at the W.C. anything other may cause a breakage to the engine. Grazie (Roma 1990)

Airbag problems

had similar airbag light problem with my facelift 156 JTDm, tried to reset with fancy snap on box of tricks but would not... reading said "passenger curtain airbag squib...value too high"

searched in boot as you guys suggested... and found two connectors one orange and one yellow both attached to yellow cables on offside of boot behind carpet.
disconnected battery and left the car for 30mins,pulled connectors apart and cleaned, then cable tied together with small cable ties.

re-connected battery, restarted car....Bingo

what would i do without AO???

22 - curtain airbag squib (passenger)

Great instructions, connectors in the boot passenger side, near the lights, in the pocket. Disconnected battery, cleaned connectors after pulling them apart, contact spray, put back and applied lots of insulation tape. Cleared errors from the ecu, and that`s that.

Good!

Incidently I did check out the ECU log as occasionally the engine warning symbol used to light up. The log read as an ignition fault but there was never any problem with the car,( I think that the little man inside the computer had been drinking! & pressing the wrong buttons). The light usually cleared after an hour or two, usually after I re-fueled.
Since we have been living in Spain we have never had the light coming on, & also the electric windows work much quicker. I think the car likes the Med. climate better than the UK.
