Not sure. In my case I gradually lost the ability to select 1st and 2nd gears, then felt a judder as i engaged third. By the end of the trip i couldn't select a single gear and there was a release bearing 'chatter' when i depressed the clutch pedal.
The release bearing was knackered it was recommended to replace the DMF and clutch at the same time as DMF looked like it had done its 150k! and the clutch was only another 100 quid as a kit.
They should investigate the reason why release bearing colapsed (probably couldn't move enough and partial disengagment destroyed it)
Its only that the problem came back gradually over the last 2-3 weeks, culminating in me losing 1st and 2nd on my drive to bournemouth today. the hose leading to the slave (the one that kinks quite a bit) felt like it was expanding as the clutch pedal was depressed and the guess is instead of losing fluid its pulling air in.
Hose might expands because of big pressure from master clutch cylinder, and lack of movement of slave clutch cylinder:
- eventualy if you don't sort that out, it could break and you will lose pedal completly
If the clutch pedal is hard to rpess, then there must be some resistance causing that slave cylinder can't push fork enough:
- either for is seizing in bushes (they should clean and lubricate them)
- either release bearing is not sliding easily on shaft (they should clean and lubricate that too)
With this air back in the system i cant select gears. They bled the system again today and all feels good now, its just i've been told its 25 quid for the new hose, i should also replace the damper as well as these are problematic (£60) and an hours labour.
Its not a great cost but i've already chucked £1k at the car. If i can replace the hose first myself and see if this cures things it could only be another £25. Its just the part needs a special order from Italy.
If i could find the hose
Strange that there is air in the hose if you can't see any leaks on the hose, or on the slave cylinder.
Chech for leaks at the master cylinder (under the clutch pedal).
If the system is leaking oil then it is possible that it is pulling air in, and in that case all the symptoms you have are logical.
