Re: Now 5th lambda sensor failure in 10 months
I can beat that, car has been back to dealer 5 times since October 04
It all started after I drove down to Shipley, was on buisness for a week, then when I started the journey home the dreaded bleep bleep bleep, still had 350 miles to travel to get home, phoned the dealer who said it should be ok to drive home as long as the car seemed OK functionally and all levels were OK [yeah big help]
Usual scenario, reset the error and gave it back, by the time I got home it was on again, back to dealer exactly same scenario just as I get within 5 miles of home bleep frikkin bleep. After the 3rd occurence and bearing in mind the supplying dealer is 40 miles from me I ask then to get someone else involved, they assure me a "super tech" will be visiting his premises and he would book my car in during his visit.
Up to this point I had been fobbed off with the following reasons for the failure
1] Lambda Probe Failure - replaced twice to date
2] Poor Crimping on sensor termination
3] We don't really know but can you keep returning it until the warranty runs out or you die [they didn't really but you get the idea]
Anyway booked her in, tech worked on it and they took it for a test drive and were happy to return it. This seemed to cure it until about 2 weeks ago when instead of the bleep[x3] and the permanent reminder to visit dealer, it bleeped about 20 times then reset itself, now being of reasonable intelligence and the odd dabbler in PLC programming it occured to me that the so called "super tech" had merely re-written the error code loop.
So now that Xmas is over and my warranty runs out at end of May, I will be re-contacting the dealer to sort this out once and for all, so anyone know exactly what my rights are in getting the matter resolved to my satisfaction before the warranty expires?
Additionally bearing in mind the throttle on this model is fly by wire has anyones dealer looked into the possibility that the accelerator output may be at fault here?, I have noticed recently that when changing through gears briskly I am aware of a bit more induction whoosh before releasing the clutch [i.e. giving it welly before the clutch is released]
Oh and hello to all my fellow members, this is my 4th Alfa and easily the most frustrating, give me back my bulletproof 164 V6 anyday
