Diagnostic check

Hello. I was wondering if there's some sort of procedure that I could run to check if my car's OBD is showing any errors without using a scanner/software.

ie.: when I turn the ignition key to the last position before 'start' 3 times simultaneously on my previous car - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee - the error codes show up on the odomoter (Pxxxx).

Appreciate the comments.
