Bought my 2.4 20V JTD just over a month ago. It was registerd in March of this year (04 reg).
When I first had it, I noticed a few 'perculiar' things with my milage and how much diesel I had been using.....you guessed it.....it was the faulty fuel gauge sensor.
It would show totally full for 200 miles or so and then suddenly drop to half full on the gauge. It would stay there for another 150 ish miles and then drop to 1/4 full.....
Sometimes it would work fine.....typical Alfa! Not trustworthy though.
So back it went to the 'wonderful people' (cough, cough!!) at Picadilly Motors....
When they changed the faulty sensor, they also replaced the speedo assembly (including the odometer!). I was given an explanation, but the guy who told me didnt seem to understand either.....
My Alfa should show 8K miles, but now shows 2K miles. Its marked in the service book as such and the work carried out on the odometer/speedo assembly.
The pain in the arse is that now the service warning light keeps coming on
......so I totally agree with you about the 'over priced incompetents' (we have the same grade of mechanics up here too!!
You could always get it looked at under warranty. Having said that, if youve had no grief with it I wouldn't let them play with it......as the saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it....."
