i tried 2 air bag ecus in my 156 spotwagon and strill the light stayed on bith ecus came out of working cars all connections were correct so where is the fault ??? if the garage couldnt find it that done the work im stuffed in may then when mot is due..
Point proven! Too many warning lights on modern cars, so no actual fault to be found as proven by the earlier post of the airbags that DID fire, yet its an MOT failure when the only fault is a sensor or iffy bulb. Is that fair? Your car can fail an MOT for a badly made dash bulb, or sensor when they actual part (i.e. Airbag) that should be tested but not, is working fine.
VOSA/Government needs to rethink, methinks....
mechanics payday all round! imagine how many of us will now be paying for labour charges for 'investigation' work or replacement airbags etc. when there is no need.
just had another thought..
My car has the MCSF light on, but the emissions are good and MOT passable. So, will the MOT inspector read the emissions print out and say 'Pass' but 'Fail' on the actual light being on? Ignoring the actual physical emissions and going by the faulty sensor, when its the emissions only he should be looking at? That would be like going to the Doc's, him using a broken thermometer and saying, "well you look fine but according to this thermometer you are dead, so I'm going to use that and not my eyes". It wouldnt happen!
Who advises the government on these new decisions? Is it a board of garages? If so, it smacks of making money. The MOT test was set up 50 years ago for much needed safety checks and most of these are still viable..but when its a fail due to a iffy dash bulb and you have to pay for investigation which may not be conclusive, and still the light is on and STILL you fail the MOT, you have to wonder.
