The fix you specify above usually works for me - had an episode yesterday with the diver's window for the first time in months. I would say try again and see what happens.
Another idea, might be doing the "ECU reset business". It only involves disconnecting the negative lead from the battery, waiting a while and following an idling procedure. This *SHOULD* fix your window. However, usually, you press the button for a second or two and the window goes down, up for a few seconds and up it goes to the top all by itself. Whenever I do the ECU reset thing, the auto up/down does not work AT ALL. It's only after a few miles that it all starts working again. The ECU reset thing is easy enough to find on the forum.
What reg is your car? You could always look at getting a window module from a later model - plenty of cars being broken on ebay and it only involves removing the crew from under the armrest on the door card, pulling the switch mechanism out, inplugging the module and reconnecting...SIMPLES.
