GT 1.9 JTDm - Clicking Diff?
I am looking for some ideas and advice from all of you experts out there.
My problem is a clicking noise that appears to be coming from the front wheels.
The noise is loudest on the over-run and is vehicle speed dependent - almost a whine above 25 mph, a clicking noise at slow speed and non-existent at stand still. It is not there (or very quiet) as soon as the accelerator is touched and the engine is driving the wheels. It re-appears immediately on the over-run.
The noise is still there when coasting in neutral but is not as loud as when on the over-run and is still vehicle speed dependent but independent of engine speed.
The noise is independent of steering, braking or operating the clutch and/or gearbox.
The local garage have had the car in the ramp and the clicking noise is there when a front wheel is rotated. Both front wheels are affected and hence the local mechanic thinks it is not a driveshaft as this would be one side only and is therefore related to the gearbox or differential His best guess is the differential.
I believe (from the Autolusso website) that these differentials are problematic for Alfa Romeo and the fix is to fit a Q2 differential.
Any comments on what this may be, what I should do next and how much it may cost me will be welcome.
In the short term I have it booked in with the dealer for next Thursday.
