Why would GM want to use Alfa's engine - surely developing their own CDTi engine would be far better than the licence costs of the Fiat/Alfa JTD? Does GM now own Fiat?
So many questions, so much confusion
Yes, things do indeed move quickly - check out Autoexpress.co.uk - they keep me informed really well on developments. The 210PS Vectra was reported on there 3 or 4 months back now.
With regards to the GM thing - GM and Fiat (Alfa) have had a joint input/development with the JTD/CDTi (which ever way you look at it). This means that the 1.9 140 BHP Multijet which I have in my motor is in the new Astra, Vectra and soon the Zafira, I think. As GM also have their grotty little hands with the gorgeous Saab's too, the 9-3 and 9-5 will get this engine in it too - except they will be tuned to 150 BHP
, although the sound is not as sporty as the Alfa as the exhaust manifolds are different. Not sure if the 2.4 will go over to a GM motor.
It's a bit of a shame GM had to rub their dirty maullers into Alfa and Fiat, but without it, there probably would be no Alfa as these diesels (largely funded by GM) have saved them.
