You may have warped the disc with your heavy braking. That would account for the brake pedal judder, although its not the only possibility. If the disc and pads are worn too there may be a lip around the edge of the disc which is catching the metal backing on the pad to make the grinding noise.
If you are that close to needing new discs anyway then replacing the discs and pads sooner rather than later wont hurt and it eliminates the obvious areas.
