I recently joined the site after purchasing a 2002 156 2.4 JTD for use as my daily commuter so I thought I would share my thoughts and ask a couple of questions now that I have had her for a week or so.
Its taking a while to get used to the incredibly light steering, but she seems to handle pretty well and I'm quite impressed so far, the engine pulls like a train and on my journey to work (33 miles each way mainly duel carriageways) has averaged around 45 mpg (brim to brim method) driving at around a steady 70 mph, so thats a big improvement. Everything seems to work as it should but there are a couple of things that have come to light.
1: The 'water in fuel' warning light occasionally flickers on for a split second, reading around the forums this seems to indicate that the fuel filter needs replacing (or I should stop filling up with supermarket diesel
2: the glow plug warning light flashes for approx 30 secs, again this seems to indicate that they may need replacing
3: I have no trip/mpg readings on the info panel in the centre of the dash, all other functions work fine. Any ideas why this doesn't display?
4: The VAC warning has popped up twice on the info centre, both times when I have applied full right lock. Turning the engine off and restarting seems to cure this, so I assume its a sensor issue of some kind.
5: Engine temp struggles to get to around 70, so I guess this means the thermostat is probably knackered, however I have yet to test it properly using the method described here http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ck-thread.html
Apart from these few items I haven't found anything else, so I'm feeling pretty good about her...... if only I could find a decent seating position !
