Well I finally decided to get some new tyres. Went for Michellin Pilot Sport 3 and I'm incredibly happy.
I had a new wishbone fitted and an alignment done at the same time and was half expecting to drive away a bit gutted that the new bits hadn't made 'the difference' and that I'd be resigned to the fact I'd have to change the shocks and springs.
Pre today I would've found it hard to take my hands of the wheel, whether doing 15 mph or much more. The car would hit minor imperfections then want to go off in a different direction to the road, that scared the hell out of me when overtaking on country roads, very fidgety/grabby, it wasn't such a pleasurable drive.
My old tyres had loads of tread, but these new ones actually make the ride substantially better, it doesn't feel like the rebound is too fast now, the car seems more in contact with the tarmac. I can now take my hands off the wheel on rough roads, I can even take my hands off when accelerating and braking, in fact braking is really nice now, no fighting the wheel, it just stays straight. I'd put a lot of the handling flaws down to the shock/spring combo, the 40 profile tyres and the 270 something BHP coming out of the heavy engine but today's efforts seem to have sorted it.
So I reckon it should be at least a couple of weeks before I'm slating the suspension again
Thanks to the Guys at Autolusso, nice to meet you in the flesh.
