Greetings. Well, my car returned for its free oil change last week and also had its bonnet recall work done. The recall on the fuel gauge was not completed
because they had to order a part.
(I have now asked twice what this fuel gauge recall is about but all I get is "Well, some of them don't seem to work properly." Quite, tell me something else that's new!)
Can someone please explain to me what sort of organisation calls a vehicle in for a recall and has not bothered to get the correct parts ready? Pathetic.
With regard to the £133.97 price for an oil and filter change, Alfa Romeo UK say they cannot set the prices charged by dealers (basically the labour cost) for things like oil changes as the franchise overheads vary widely. Fair enough. They suggested that I try and find someone cheaper and pointed out that Alfa authorised service providers are not all big main dealers.
I will do this and doubt very much whether I will be returning to Wilsons of Epsom except to get the recall work completed.
Alfa also said they would take up with Wilsons the erroneous use of semi-synthetic oil in JTS engines. I'm sure Wilsons are quivering in their boots. Their commitment to the Alfa franchise includes putting Renault marketing materials in my Alfa when I pick it up!
There was one victory, however.
Alfa, after some argument, have agreed to accept a claim under the warranty for the recoding of my spare key for which I had been charged £47 inc vat.
At first, they tried to say that keys were specifically excluded
under the warranty. Of course they are not. This was easy to verify -- all you have to do is read the warranty exclusions. It's not rocket science! Who do these people think they are trying to kid. Bloody nerve.
When I called Alfa customer care last week, I found that the person who had been dealing with my case was "no longer in our employ". So I had to explain it all again. I took the opportunity to tell the person what I thought of Alfa dealers and the damage the dealer network does to Alfa's reputation in the UK. I pointed out that almost every article in the press that mentions Alfa also says that its dealer network is rubbish.
The Alfa lady said that she was very glad that I had raised all of these matters and that Alfa Romeo UK is very keen to get feedback from owners on their experience.
So, ladies and gents -- LET THEM HAVE IT.
