Well, six month of ownership of my latest 156 beasty and nothing to report apart from a blown numberplate bulb!
I did breakdown once... Ran out of fuel stupidly but had no issues after that... Took 10 ltrs to get it started again!
So far it has behaved with impeccable manners... Plenty of poke, 18mpg if I cane it... 25 if I don't... 7000 miles so far and the brake/ oil/ power steering/ Auto transmission/ coolant fluids and oil filter changed as a matter of course.
All the electrical connections cleaned/re-fitted.... all the brakes removed, inspected and re-fitted with nice cleaned up and painted calipers.
All the earthing points straps removed, cleaned re-fitted.
Interior ECU wrapped and sealed.
MAF removed , cleaned and re-fitted
Throttle body removed cleaned and re-fitted.
Apiro induction air filter fitted into original airbox fitted (no issues at all with MAF)
Engine bay cleaned and tidy... Photo to follow....
Floor pan and sills checked and undersealed
4 wheel alignment checked and perfect.
Tyres checked with 6mm tread on rear, 5mm on front, all Goodyear NCT 3's
all bushes/ bearings/ driveshafts and CV boots checked and perfect... The previous owner spent a fortune on poly bushes complete
In other words... One really happy owner
Prevention... Is far better than the cure lads
So... what do I personally use....?
Standard unleaded fuel from anywhere! I never have imaginary issues with performance!
10W/40 carlube semi-synth oil... No need for 10W/60, I don't go racing and I don't drive an EVO 10!
Slick 50 engine oil treatment "swear by it" always have and always will. Past 10 cars have had the same stuff with no issues!
DEXRON II power steering and ATF standard stuff. DEXIII is not needed!
Carlube glycol based antifreeze concentrated 5 yr... PURFLU what?
DOT 4 brake fluid standard stuff... I don't go on track days!
Waxoyl underseal... nuff said!
Nothing flash, nothing fancy... Because its a car, not a piece of cotton wool wrapped jelly... And it works like it should!
So what's next?
New radiator next spring, noticed the fins are a bit groggy on the bottom end... New thermostat while i'm on.
Cambelt due in two years so will get it changed complete with new water pump, rollers, guides and tensioners next year... That's about it really.
