Oil temperature

Hi there,

Now winter has truly hit the north-east, my oil temp is pretty low while doing motorway driving. This all stems I think, from my long running battle with 5w-40 oil as supplied by my alfa specialist. Normally in town the temp is 60deg C and in traffic jams hits 70 and stops. Along the motoway today it was just over 50 deg C - is this ok? I've found that my oil usage (which has been on the high side) is greatly increased if I drive over 4000 revs - eg used half a litre in 300 miles.

I know the oil grade is not alfa spec, so I'm going to go to 10w 40 or 10w 60 at the next change anyway.

Wonder what you think....

Re: Oil temperature

10W60 Full Synthetic is the way to go.

As for the oil temperature, where are you getting your figures from?
The gauge is water temp, not oil temp.
