The AC of my '05 156 2.4 20V M-Jet wasn't working properly. The pollen filters where already exchanged. Allthough they were pretty badly clogged up, the aircon is still not cooling enough.
So this afternoon I finally went for a refill. They had refilled it with 650 gramms of R134a. After starting the engine the high pressure circuit had risen to about 10 bars and it blew air at about 7-8°C. However it suddendly collapsed shortly after to 6 bars and the AC only blew warm air.
At this point both the low and high pressure circuits only showed 6 bars. Furthermore turning the AC on or off didn't show any changes in the pressure too, which remained steady (6 bars). Then I noticed that the engine fan had stopped working totally, as the engine coolant temperature had risen to about 120°C!
Since then the aircon only blows air at room temperature and the engine fan never came on again. However I can still hear the compressor clicking, but I am not sure if it's actually working. Furthermore I have checked fuse 9, which was OK. We also tried shorting the engine fan relay with positive results (2nd level).
Now does anyone have an idea how these two things relate to each other and what can be done/tested? I'd be very grateful for every hint you guys could give me.
PS: Just before the AC and engine fan stopped working, it was the first time I ever
heard the fan running at the first, lower speed. Usually I could start the car and after 20 seconds the fan already started running at full speed, even in cold ambient temperatures.
