I had exactly the same issue.
Take a look at this thread...
I ended up replacing lots of parts...
> Upper & lower arms
> Link Arms (and yes - make sure they are as tight as a ducks arse, the slightest movememnt and Knock, Knock, Knock)
Spent lots of money and 2 full days in a garage overall.
I didnt mind too much as I wanted the car right, but what I noticed is this..
If you feel knocking 'In the floor' so to speak, and poss a little in the pedals, it will be ARB bushes.
Squeaking (per say) over bumps - more than likely top arms.
Creaking when turning could be top arms, or track rod ends?
General knocking and banging is normally bottom arms.
I took the decision to replace the lot and now mine runs perfect.
I alos took the liberty of replacing the 2 x driveshafts as there was play in the gearbox end - but I guess thats a 20v for you!
All of the work I did myself, so happy to offer any advice, but the key is allow yourself time, dont think it will be done in 2 hours cos it wont, and for some parts a second pair of hands is great...
