Re: Jammed Sportwagon Tailgate
Finally got to it yesterday (spent the weekend fixing my wife's Punto)!
Could not get the thing open by any sort of manipulation. It was just too tight. Thought I could get to the lower lip by taking out the four normal screws on show but the two Torx screws hidden from view held it tight.
Moved to the tailgate inner trim and started to undo all the screws. Found the three hidden behind plugs, then two in the handle void, then two more behind the bulb access points but no amount of tugging would release it. I could hear the four body clips moving but it was stuck fast. Then I found the screw they carefully hid behind the inner load light. It's not obvious you can get this out with the tailgate closed!
I was about to attack the two 10mm bolts holding the lock when I noticed you could see where the solenoid hits the release lever. I just lightly touched it with a flat bladed screwdriver and it all sprung open.
I now know I could have got the screwdriver into that void without taking off the trim!!! You just can't see it without getting your head into the place where the trim was.
So if it happens to anyone else just slide a screwdriver down the 'drivers side' of the lock mechanism.
Then to fix it.....Nothing wrong. It works perfectly!
I can only assume that something was jamming it but it fell into the void on opening. I've just added some grease to make me feel better.
