Dual-zone AC Compressor staying on
I can't manage to get the compressor of my pre-facelift 147 to stay off. I know lots of people have the opposite problem, but this is driving me nuts. I previously had a pre-facelift 156 (non-dual zone CC) and I was able to disable the auto-compressor setting and only have it on when I want it on (i.e. when it was hot outside or high humidity).
Driving to work this morning, the outside ambient was a reported 12C, the car's cabin temperature was set to 20C, and the climate control system was warming the car nicely, but the compressor keeps turning itself on. I would press the button, the compressor light goes out, one of the Auto lights goes out and 30 seconds later the compressor light would be back on again.
As far as I can tell, the system is working, so maybe I should stop worrying. If I set it, to say 20C, then it seems to maintain that temperature. I would just like to try to improve my mpg by not running the compressor when it's not needed. In addition, the manual warns not to run the compressor when the outside temperature is below 4C, and it's going to be getting near that in a month or two. Am I missing something obvious?
