Let me hear your diesel engines roar!!
I have decided that I'm likely going to buy an Alfa 156 1.9 JTD but after viewing a 156 and a GT it has occurred to me that I have no idea what the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy engine is. The 156 sounded less healthy than the GT, but is this to be expected on an older diesel design? Also, do JTD lumps sound the same as PD lumps because the GT sounded similar but the 156 didn't? I'm guessing that any tinny rattling (156) like my dad's old Zetec Fiesta is bad news, as is a helicopter-esque rotational whooshing noise (156). Anything other than the phut-phut of the diesel soundtrack is bad right?
Finally, I wondered if there was any members in the Crewe/Stoke area who I might befriend for advice, to recommend a good mechanic or to listen to their healthy Alfa diesels. Do you have local meets here?
