How to drive a reconditioned engine when new?
My 147 is having a reconditioned engine put in. Ive been told to keep it under 3000 revs for the first 500 miles and get the oil and filter changed after about 1500 - 2000 miles? Is this correct? Ive heard if it is not done correctly, then the engine will be a right oil burner in the future?
Ive heard conflicting information - some threads say thrash it from day one to prevent glazing, and others to treat it like a baby for the first thousand? Some sites say get an oil change after 1500 - 2000 miles, some say 450 - 500 miles.
Would I be safe in following the following method -
1) Keep the car under 3000 revs for the first 500 miles, but ensure the revs are varied. I.e dont idle too long in a que or vary the revs whilst on a long stetch of motor way by varying the speed and gears.
2) Get the oil and filter changed at 500 miles at kwik fit etc (which grade oils?) then return it to the specialist who is fitting the engine for a free oil and filter change at 3000 miles?
3) Dont read line it until after the 1000 miles and the filter/ oil has been changed.
Have you guys got a definitive answer please? Any advise?
