Alfa GT Cambelt Replacement

Hello Guys

Quick question. I have an 07 1.9 JTD Alfa GT. It has covered 36,000 and I am seeking advice on replacement of the cambelt, rather than it possibly snapping and having additional costs.

I have been told it is not required until at least 60,000 and another garage has told me I should get it done now.

Living in Aberdeen I have been quoted over 700 quid and I don't want to pay out unless it is neccessary.

Any feedback would be great

Alfa's official line is still 72k miles or 5 years but most users are working to 60k miles or 4 years which ever occurs first.

Also the waterpump (which appears to be the weak link here) should get replaced at each belt change (it is driven from the belt)

£700 seems juicy for a cambelt change.

As a price guide (given distance), Alfaworkshop do it with a waterpump for £350

Thats a very expensive quote. We do it for £300 inc VAT, thats belt, tensioner, idler pulley & waterpump all fitted. Its not a particularly long or difficult job and the parts aren't all that expensive, for £700 they will be laughing all the way to the bank.

I know he is not close, but Chick in East Kilbride Glasgow is your best bet, I am sure they could take you to the shopping centre to kill your time.

There's an Alfa friendly garage in Dundee, too ( Welcome - CP Garage Services | Dundee ), which is a bit closer to you......or if you have a vauxhall or Fiat dealer near you they use the same engine in some models so could be worth trying there as they should have product knowledge.
