Does anyone know how I can get to the bulb that lights up the clock on the dash board to replace it or does this need doing by an Alfa Garage?
First you have to remove the air conditioner control support. Thats the rubber ring that you touch when changing temp/or fan speed/air direction. Remove all three rubber rings.
Remove ashtray: Open ashtray and unscrew 2 screws, disconnect electric connections.
Remove car radio: dependant of radio.
Remove gearlever knob gaiter: unclip by priying upwards
Remove under facia trim: two screws in where radio was before removing. two screws from back of where ashtray was located. And the two screws under gear lever gaiter. Displace the cover a little and disconnect the electrical connections.
NOW youre ready to remove the 4 philips screws holding the analogue instrument board. Disconnect electricals and you can freely remove the 4 lamp holders and change all 4 bulbs (clock , temp and fuel gauge)
First you have to remove the air conditioner control support. Thats the rubber ring that you touch when changing temp/or fan speed/air direction......easy as that...
Now that's why i left the bulb out on the fuel gauge, just know if i had to go through all that to replace it, small pieces would go missing, things would snap, fall off, much swearing would occur, blood pressure increase
Does anyone have the type and size (wattage) of the bulbs that illuminate the fuel gauge/clock/temp gauge?
The temp gauge went yesterday and I want to replace all three when I take half the car apart to change it. It's probably a 12v 2w glass push-in bulb similar to the revcounter (I can't find the packaging and forgot to write it down!) but I'd like to double check.
You have to have a TOR X driver for the two screws at the top of the radio opening.
However, I bet you could get at it by just removing the radio. I somebody could post a picture of the back of the gauges I think the clock bulb sticks out nicely.
Its an hour at the most, including reassembly. Thats not too bad.
The trouvble when I did it was I put it al back together and one of the other bulbs had blown whilst I man-handled it back toghether. D`oh!
So are the bulbs a dealer only part or can you buy the pea-bulbs from somewhere like Halfords? I got a bulb for my speedo from them .. more luck than judgement though as I hadn't got a clue of the type as it wasn't printed on the glass. I think I went for a 1.2w bulbs which seems ok and has been for a few months now.
