GT 2.0 JTS vs 1.9JTD, question...
It's been a month and 2 days since i've bought my 11/2004 GT 2.0JTS and recently i've been asking myself a question that's been kind of eatting me inside, but before i tell you the question i'll talk a bit about the 2 cars.
The one i bought as i said is a 11/2004 GT with a 2.0 jts petrol engine (obviously) in Grigio Stromboli color although it's a bit pearled so i know it's not the original paint with 75000km. It's Progression equipped with no other things except a Sony XPLOD CDX-GT610U mp3 player.
The other car was a 2004 GT with a 1.9JTD diesel engine in Rosso Red color, 78000km, it had the same equipping as the one i bought but it was by far less taken care of than mine inside and outside aswell.
I've bought mine for 6000euro (5100 quid) while the JTD was 7000euro (6000 quid). The red one had a stiff clutch which from what i read on forums required a new transmission while mine had low power 107bhp instead of 150+bhp and a totally brand new transmission. After talking with 1 mechanic that specializes in Alfas he told me that i need to change the AFM and the timing belt+gears on it while another person which knows the 2.0 JTS engine pretty well told me that the loss of power is caused by carbon deposits on the intake valves.
In terms of consumption i'm getting an average of 13-14 l/100km (dunno how much that is in MPG) which is a lot. It's going to cost me about 1k euro to fix the engine and get it back to about 150bhp and with this the consumtion will go down to 9-10 (i hope).
Now the question that i have been asking is this. Have i made a mistake when i decided to take the petrol one instead of the diesel?
