Utterly unrelated to this thread or this forum, but I once worked for Westland Helicopters, and did a spell in the Flight Test Department. We had a British Army Lynx returned to us for some service work, and a test pilot was assigned to check it out before they started work. I got to sit in the left hand seat, and go along as an observer. I was warned by the other FT engineers that the pilot was a bit of a cowboy.
We'd been up for ten minutes or so when during a routine manouevre a red light blinked on the Central Warning Panel. Now the CWP on a Lynx had about 30 lights on, and it was impossible to tell which one it had been.
'Did you see which light that was?' said the Pilot.
'No' says I.
The pilot repeated the manoeuvre... no light. And again... still no light.
He then said the words that have echoed round my head for the last 24 years...
'I'll make the bugger flash!'
He then proceeded to perform what was basically a 10 minute aerobatic display over the Westland airfield, and I was treated to the kind of ride you can't pay for. The experience will remain part of my memories forever.
The light never did flash again....
Sorry to go off topic, but you just reminded me of a good story!
