Motor control failure Go to Dealer
I bought a 55 plate 156SW 1.9 JTD 16v about 2 months ago. From a non-Alfa dealer with them warranting the car themselves for 6 months. When I test drove the car, it went just fine, but this warning light did come on. I negotiated with them for the car on the basis that they would have sorted out this warning before I collected it, which they were happy to agree to.
However more or less within a day of me getting it the light was back on. The dealer had it back and the EGR valve was sticky from soot so they replaced it. This fixed it for a while but after about a month, the light came on again and there was a drastic loss of power. However the next day, whilst the light was still on, the car drove normally again.
Back to the dealers, this time they flushed out the engine and fitted a new fuel filter, again it was okay for a few days, but yesterday on the motorway once again, Motor Control Failure light and loss of power. This morning, light still on, but no loss of performance. It strikes me the loss of power may not be a mechanical failure in itself but is some sort of 'safe mode' the car invokes when it reports the error? If that is so why am I getting the errors in the first place?
To be fair to the dealer involved their customer care has been excellent, they haven't dragged their feet or anything, they want to sort this but I don't think they know what is the problem. So before I go back to them again I'd like to pick the brains here to see if I can give them a heads up this time round.
Probably unrelated but amidst all this the alternator went and was replaced by the dealer.
