If it sounds like a tractor, most probably the variator has stuck in the wrong position. Does it change as you rev? It might be a faulty variator and if it was done in September, I’m wondering if you can have it replaced under warranty or not. However, are you 100% certain they didn’t just repair your old variator? There is a kit available to repair these but I am told by my ex Alfa mechanic, now independent specialist, that these kits were made available as a quick fix under warranty but the local dealership never used them, always preferring to put a new part on as the “washer and spring” solution was dodgy at best.
Variator Trivia: The eper parts break down for the kit is nonexistent (apparently, I’ve never looked myself) and the variator itself has seen 5 different part number revisions…
